AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITY QUALITY AGENCY (AUQA)
AUDIT FOR UWS

A recent email from the VC sent to staff reports on the outcome of the AUQA audit, undertaken at UWS recently:

'The words used by the panel chair in describing the spirit individuals and groups conveyed was that "UWS is a University of the people" of which all are clearly very proud...

They commended us on our engagement with the community, the strong governance of the Board of Trustees and Academic Senate, the systems we have developed such as online course approvals, tracking and improvement for learning and teaching, and complaints management, and Library services, the heads of programs network and research register.

We received "affirmations" relating to our planning, WebCT, the measurable recent improvement in student satisfaction, the developmentof the work loads policy and University funding model, the commitment to research concentration and the strategy for research development, and community engagement.

The areas which the panel recommended need further work are all-of-University action on Indigenous education, IT governance and client service, quality assurance of our off shore programs, tracking the improvements in student administration and client service, the development of "commercial" activity to increase non-government revenue, and defining the distinguishing features of the UWS student experience.'

We wonder, if '"UWS is a University of the people" of which all are clearly very proud', why is it not listening to the arts? Obviously the rest of the community is very concerned. There is no "quality" at present for us. Pity the AUQA "panel" are not judging present deficiencies in Arts at UWS. Did the AUQA review TVS?

Thanks for sending this to us.

They would have screened who got to talk to the audit people anyway.

How is it that taxpayers money subsidises Motor Racing shows on the tele, when they cant sustain the degrees they have been running for all these years. Its Motor Racing vs's art? This is what it comes down too. The administration thinks Motor racing is more important than teaching people. This makes me bloody angry.Bloody Barbarians. Makes you wonder what will be next.Hamburger cooking classes.

Not to mention passively 'screening' by subterfuge. By which I mean the VC's announcement spam (at least to wider student population e.g. myself) was sent roughly one week before the audit took place. Which is basically no time to organise a thing.

Fuck them. But anyonymous - do you have a problem with motor racing? Virilio says it's okay to enjoy motor sports. Although carbon neutral motor sports are probably better.

Remember culture is not just for wankers. And don't get me started on hamburgers.

I FUCKEN LOVE HAMBURGERS

Form and content, people.

No problem with Motor Racing or Hamburgers, Samuel, but why should my taxpaying money subsidise a product that does perfectly well in the world of private enterprise. Why doesnt the university start investing in Casinos and brothels as well, they are all legal aren't they ?

I don't think brothels are legal in NSW - I believe that you have decriminalisation and it is only Melbourne that has legalisation.

I know it is not your point to discuss sex work law but while we are on it perhaps the Univeristy should invest in brothels seeing as so many people find that the wages and working hours they offer make it so much easier for them to continue study, parent and make art.

It's not easy to be a thinker in the thick of things and pulling the arts from anywhere just makes it harder. Shame. I hope you win the fight UWS art students.

this isnt directly relevant to the previous article but i wasnt sure where else to write this. i think it would be really great if the people who made this page could somehow add a link to all the current student assignments such as the ones found at this address:
