The Katoomba branch of the ALP has passed a motion that the fine arts degree at UWS be reinstated. As was pointed out at the meeting the Blue Mountains is known as the city of the arts and many of its artists were trained at UWS. This motion is aimed specifically at putting the issue of support for education in the arts on the agenda in an election year. Part of the bigger picture behind this motion is to draw the university administrators attention to the fact that political realities change and that with the appropriate lobbying a change of government could result in a brighter future for the visual arts at UWS. If you are a member of the ALP in the greater western sydney area please encourage your local branch to pass similar motions.
